new problem '99 626
 

Okay so thank you to the people who replied to my last post... I fixed the belt issue for the most part. The belts only squeal when I start the car, but I took my 626 out for a test drive last night, and I noticed that it's smoking like a mofo... I can only trace it to under the manifold somewhere but it definitely smells like oil. I haven't linked the problem to anything specific. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? All I know is that the smoke is coming from under the manifold, but I didn't notice any traces of burnt ANYTHING on the exhaust....

Need to get my car back on the road for work :( Could the PCV cause this problem?

I crawled under the car and the "oil" is coming out of the knock sensor.... I'm pretty sure that knock sensors don't have oil pressure behind them (I could be wrong)... Seriously I need a little guidance on this one.... Thanks

Here is what I found:
knock sensor has some black sealant stuff that can leak out if the back cover has a hole in it. It won't leak oil out of it though and if it is oil it is probably the oil pressure sensor.

Knock sensor and pressure sensor are located close together.

Here is what I would do: check with the parts store if the sensors are in stock or available in a hurry. If yes, pull the sensor out and take it to the store to get either a seal or a new sensor and seal.

If the belt still squeals it has not enough friction with a pulley. In Protege's it is most commonly the alternator pulley. Take the belt off and roughen the sides of the grooves on the pulley with emery cloth.
