Hazard lights flash after battery change

Problem is : Replaced the battery today in the 323 Protege 2000 model. The hazard lights flash now when the ignition is turned on and stay flashing for at least 30 seconds after the engine is started.
History: The remote unlocking was working fine on Sunday.
On Tuesday the old battery died on a particularlry chilly Canberra day and was jumper lead started.
On Wednesday I took the vehcile to buy a new battery. I noticed the remote locking wasn't working. I stopped and started the engine 3 times before arriving at the battery place. On none of those occasions did the hazard lights flash for the 30 second period.
I dropped into the Mazda dealer on the way home and they shrugged their shoulders. Never heard of it before.
Any ideas?
Come to think of it I did see a chap driving a similar model about a month back and the hazard lights were flashing as he was pulling away from the curb.

RE: Hazard lights flash after battery change

Sounds like the flasher unit was affected during the jumping process... try replacing it. I've a CX-9 and left my car at an airport parking garage... they left the lights on while we were out of town...and had to jump it at the last minute when we came to pick it up... I'm not sure how they did it ... but for a bit it realy screwed with my electrical system... pwr locks didn work... transmission had to relearn it's shifing patterns...windows had to be reset for auto up and down...etc... turns out it/they did something to the bcm ( body control module ) ... got it replaced and all's well... obviously very different models... but... I'm leaning on something happened to the flasher unit ...
