Default Brake Drum Help Please!

92 Mazda 626 - Is there some trick to getting the new brake drums and shoes back on the car? For some reason they are not fitting. A friend of mine is doing the work for me to save shop fees. He says they just don't fit and yes we have checked to make sure they are the correct ones for the car. We did take the drums in to a mechanic to get the new bearings installed. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not. I did read in one of the threads that someone else had this problem so he put the old shoes back on. Not possible in my case as they are too badly worn.

Sounds like you need to back off the self adjuster all the way down. If the shoes look the same and are the same size, everything should work. Here is a pic of the adjuster.

Ok thank you bkey for your quick response. We will be trying that tomorrow. I'm really glad I found this site. I have a feeling I'll be having more questions seeing as the mechanic that did the safety on the car said it needs about $1700 worth of work before it can go on the road.
