96 Mazda 323 Protege left Indicators

The problem I've been having is that my left hand indicators have a regular habit of clicking fast without any lights going. This can go on for 5 minutes then they might work. The bulbs are good and so is the relay. It might be a bad earth but I don't know.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

This doesn't help you, but, I have the exact same problem. I'll let you know if I figure it out... never been a priority for me because inspections pass if it blinks, regardless of frequency

I never got back to this; Since it was always bothering me, one evening I finally had enough, and dived into it; Traced voltage down to the socket, voltage at the bulb pins, and deduced there must be a problem in the socket itself.

Well, I went on Ebay and found one socket available, but the guy wanted something crazy like $50 for it.

So, as I was debating the justification of the expense, with the old bulb socket in hand, I was kind of fiddling with it, twisting it this way and that, to figure out how it comes apart, and after awhile I managed to disassemble it. Maddeningly, I could find no issues, so I reassembled it ~ but at that point, when I went to the car to test it, suddenly it was working properly!

So I guess this is a long-winded way of saying, if you pull the socket itself, and try disassembly, cleaning, reassembly - it may solve the issue! Or just get lucky and find one at a salvage yard somewhere... probably easier.
