'90 323 Fuel pump running, but not pumping
Like the title says, I'm working on a '90 323 hatchback. Not sure how many miles. Manual transmission.
My friend said it was sluggish, then it refused to start the next time. It cranks, has good spark, but no fuel. All fuses I can find look good. When I open the drivers door I can hear the pump run (un-evenly) for ~5 seconds. (It is supposed to prime the pump when the door is opened, right?) I opened the return line on the intake and I don't have fuel there. I took out the back seat and put another line on the output directly from the pump, and again I don't get fuel when the pump is making noise. So I swapped in a new pump, and it does the same thing  I searched, but did not figure out where the fuel pump relay is on this thing. My only other next step would be to jump power directly to the pump to see if it starts moving fuel or not. Any ideas why two different pumps would make noise, but not actually push any fuel? |
Maybe there is not enough voltage arriving at the pump or the ground connection is corroded? That's really a guess.

a guess
fuel line plugged at the tank or at the filter?
