89' 626 slx smokes when accelerator is released
Hi
I own a 1989 626 SLX automatic. It runs 100% and under normal town driving it doesnt smoke at all, it also doesnt smoke when i start it up. But when i drive on the highway at higher speeds for a while and release the accelerator, a huge puff of white smoke comes out the exhaust. I thought it might be the valve stem seals, but apparently one of the symptoms of valve stem seals is that the car smokes on startup, which mine does not do. Any suggestions? |
White smoke means water, coolant. Check your coolant level.
Your car is burning water, coolant. Your car needs a new head gasket and cylinder head resurfacing. Since you've got your cylinder head off, you may want to put in new valve seals, valve job. With a 1989, it's time to junk it. Mind as well just drive it til she blows. |
Thanks Noggin
Ill keep an eye on the coolant level. Reckon ill do the head and valves anyway. Does the water have to have coolant (antifreeze) in it to burn white, or will clean water do it aswell? |
