'88 323 Cooling fan test

Aloha from Maui!

I have an '88 323 and my electric auxillary cooling system is shot. I know I need a new thermo switch and probably a new relay, but I'm trying to find a simple way to test the fan. The Chilton guide for later model cars says to connect the fan harness directly to the battery to see if it runs. Can I just short out the fan wires in the relay harness to accomplish the same thing? Would they be the two yellow wires?

Thanks,

Ray

I dont recall the wire colors but you should be able check for power and ground at the motor with a simple 12 volt test light. Check for ground by clamping the test light to the positive side of the battery and probe the terminals. Power check by clamping the test light to a ground and probing the terminals. If you have both its a bad motor.
