323 - DOHC

Ok, Im probably getting a 323F soon, 96-97. I was wondering if the 1.5 has a DOHC engine and not just the 1.8 and 2.0.

Also, does this affect fuel consumption and will I be able to blow some cars of the road with it?

:D

RE: 323 - DOHC

I drive a 1987 323 DX 1.6i (with 5 speed manual transmission)... I have also driven a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee (6 cylinder), a 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager (a 6 cylinder mini van) and a 1964 Ford Mustang (260 CI V8 with a Green Dot Automatic transmission)...

Racing people away from the lights (may not be legal where you are), but can be done in any of those vehicles... But, it's not so much what you drive as how you drive. In some cases it's a matter of luck (the other guy races up right behind a really slow moving vehicle and gets stuck there) and in some cases it is skill, (he can't shift or his car sounds loud and has lots of "mods" but they do nothing for actual performance)...

However against someone with a better vehicle who knows how to drive it you're not going to win no matter what.

As for fuel consumption, most things you do to improve performance will probably increase your fuel consumption. Again driving habits come into play as well, If you race away from the lights, and stomp on the brakes then your fuel consumption will be worse (unless you're driving a Hybrid in which case, paradoxically, this is what you want to do).

I realise that this probably doesn't help much... Oh and according to Wikipedia the 1.5L engine is a 16V DOHC but depending on the year the 1.8L might not be... :-)

RE: 323 - DOHC

I get what your saying and thanks for the reply, but do DOHC have advantages over normal engines is what Im really asking. Say for example would a Mazda 1.5i DOHC be more powerful than a 1.6i or a mi-tech engine, vtech etc. Also if anyone has come across a list of modern day cars that utilise the DOHC engine, can you please let me know, thanks.
