2000 626 4 cyl, auto, tranmission shifter cable question

Hey there folks,

We bought a 2000 Mazda 626 with a 4 banger and a slush box for my daughter to drive.

133k. Trans shifted hard, fluid was dirty. Changed fluid, but filter was inside the trans  so we let it go. Shifting cleared up pretty decent.

Ended up running it that way for a long time. Driver side seal went on her way home months later, she killed the trans.

I bought a Jasper reman with low mileage off Craigslist from a rear ended car that was being parted out. Mileage verified with receipts.

Pulled the engine and trans on our car, swapped transmissions, did a timing belt, water pump, and other maintenance stuff while it was out.

New trans shifts great manually from under the hood by hand, and then letting her drive it in the driveway.

My shifter cable slips over the rod just like the car it came off of. Everything matches up the same.

It appears as you sit in the car, when shifting into gear, it's off half a click or so.

Is there a way to slack up these cables? I honestly don't think it's the tranny.

Thanks for input or advise,

Blair

There should be a way to adjust it...
Check where the cable attaches to the shifter assembly. maybe the cable end-housing is threaded for adjustment on that end...
