my questions are these . can I swap out one engine control module for another providing the part numbers are the same and same model vehicle and engine. does it still need to be programmed or reflashed. is the ecm vin specific. I have a 2000 mazda protégé , 1.6 lit engine with part number yu3f12a650-vd. I can find a rebuilt ecm on line for $350 but then I have to pay a dealer another 300$ to reflash it plus towing charges. I would like to find a used ecm and just switch them out. can I do that?

 

I need some help here. does anyone know about swapping out ecm's or pcm's.
