Rear window defroster
 

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege ES. My question is how do I get my rear window defroster to work?
It quit working and for the life of me, I can't find any fuse in either fuse box that runs that item.
I do not have an owner's manual to look it up in either.
Anyone know a quick, easy, and most importantly, CHEAP solution to get it working again?
The button clicks when I try to turn it on, but nothing happens.

Does the light on the switch not light when the button is depressed? If not then when you turn on the headlights does the backlit illumination work ok. This will at least tell you if the switch is even plugged in behind it. No backlit illumination and no opertation usually means unplugged connector for switch.

Yes, the light on the button comes on when I press it. I hear it click as if it is working, but nothing happens on the back window.

Like I said, I didn't see a fuse that was marked, and I took out most of the fuses and checked them, just in case, but didn't find any that were blown.

You are actually getting cold enough this time of year to get moisture on the back window to need a defroster?? Light coming on with button press is good sign. The defroster relay is under the dash directly above the fuse box. Make sure you are also getting a click from this relay when pressing the switch. If that is ok then would head back to the rear glass and make sure the wires are plugged into the grid. Wires should be visible on left side of glass area.

We have been getting hot, humid days and cool nights here in western PA, so yeah, moisture has been building up if I leave the windows down.

I will check your suggestions. The switch clicks when I turn it on, and it sounds as if the relay is clicking too. I'll keep you posted.
