Default RE: P1141 OBDII code

Do I have to take the sensor out in order to clean it? My check engine light was on and I took it to the mechanic and after fixing it and replacing the EGR vale and oxygen sensor, a new code (P1141) came on and the former OE code were gone. Another thing is the mechanic told me my air intake hose has craked. any advice please?I just spend $500 on this car today. And I have to go for my emission test.

I had a similar problem with a 2001 1.6L Protege. The engine had been having problems, running poorly and dying when fully warmed up, especially in traffic jams. Finally, the check engine light came on and I went today and got the codes at Autozone. They were P1141 and P0300, meaning the rear O2 sensor and random cylinder misfires, respectively. However, after reading this thread, I took out the mass air flow sensor and cleaned it per the above instructions using non-chlorinated brake cleaner, and went ahead and cleaned the throttle body using its own cleaner, while I was at it. The little "bulb" of the IAT sensor was indeed very dirty.

The check engine light went away when I drove the car tonight, and the car does feel better, but I can't be absolutely sure the problem is fixed until I've driven the car for a few weeks, since the problem only happens sporadically. If I don't follow up here about my problem in the next few months, you can assume that cleaning the MAF/IAT fixed it for me.
