Default Overheating

Hi all,

First post ever. Still figuring this stuff out. I had a question. I have a 1998 Mazda 626 LX-V6. I am pretty sure my cooling fan is supposed to kick on every once in a while but it never does. I can't figure out which dohicky is the temp sensor though to check it out. The fuse is good and i have already replaced the fan itself. Can't find any good pics to help me out. Thanks for any help.

Does it come on w/the A/C? It should be on all the time then.
Is the car actually overheating or are you just worried about it?

Unhappy Overheating

The temp gauge is getting almost maxed out. I am losing coolant also. Tonight I crawled under the car and there is a slow dripping of coolant. I am thinking that my water pump is almost done for. Problem is I can't identify which pulley is for what because it is pretty cramped. If I have to replace the pump do I have to pull the engine? If I pull the engine should I just rebuild the engine? Should I make it easy and buy a replacement?. Is that something I can do or should I have a shop do it. The exhaust is getting smoky too which I think means a blown head gasket.

All in all I may just have to break down and buy an new 6. Shame.

Thanks for your help already.

um yea... either blown gasket, rings or cracked wall. there are other ways that could contribute to smoke. do a compression test. that will narrow it down for you. if the compression is down on just a single cyl. then its prolly either cracked wall or rings. if there are 2 cyl. next to each other that is low comp. its prolly head gasket. lmk if u need any more info. im not a master tech so dont think i know alot hahaha.
