Oil change question -

New here, so bear with me. I did several searches on the site and couldn't find a similar thread.
I have a 2019 Mazda6 with the (non-turbo) SkyActive engine. I'm coming up on 2,500 miles.
The owner's manual says to change the oil and filter at 7,500 miles. I understand that the oil is a full synthetic and doesn't break down like petroleum-based oils, but 7,500 miles feels like a stretch to me. Adding to my worries is the fact the I've read some information on the internet that Mazda has had problems due to oiling issues on the SkyActive engines (although the worst of them seem to be in ROW diesels...). I'm planning to order Mazda oil and filters soon so that I'll have them on hand when I do the first oil change. (I'd take it to my dealer, but that's a 120+ mile drive each way.)
So, my question is: Should I do the first oil change at 5,000 miles or play it safe and aim for 2,500? I'm planning to keep this car for a long time, so I want to be careful with the maintenance.

Best regards - and - thanks for looking!

You're overthinking it; 7,500 miles is conservative, no need to change it early. FWIW, our 2.5 liter Mazda3 recommends 10,000 mile oil changes.

I haven't seen any oil issues in the petrol skyactiv engines. The diesels have problems due to fuel & combustion contamination.

Japan, Australia & New Zealand still run a 10,000km ( 6,000 mile ) service interval for engine oil.

For personal peace of mind I would change MY oil ever 6,000 miles. Its not going to hurt the engine.

Thank you grim_reaper. I usually change the oil and filter in my vehicles every 5,000 miles if they're using either synthetic or synthetic blend oil. It gives me peace of mind - and -since I have more than one vehicle, it's much easier to remember when the oil change is due!

I do my oil changes between 5000 and 7500 miles. Oil changes are cheep insurance but I don’t think there is any extra benefit in having it done before 5000 miles/9 months.
