Recently purchased a 1996 626 with 75,000miles.It takes about 4 to 5 minutes for the car to slowly idle down when cold. It starts out at about 2400 rpm and eventually will drop to around 700 rpm.
I have also noticed that after it has warmed up and I rev up the motor to 4 to 5 thousand rpm that it takes 2 to 3 times longer than normal for the engine to idle back down to the 700 rpm range.
Ihave also noticed that ifI disconnect the idle control solenoid that both of these problems will go away, however the car will not idle on its own and die.
It appears that the solenoid is working. sodoes anyone know whatwould be causing this problem?
