Mazda 5 speed 2dr '89 clutch problem

Mazda 5 speed 2dr '89 clutch problem
I just bought a Mazda '89 2dr 5 sp man trans, that goes into gear alright but occasionally seems to "spring" a bit in 1st and 2nd.
It is fine in 4th and 5th.
Is this just "the car" or is a new clutch looming on the horizon.
I don't know if it's my driving(I haven't driven a std in 30 yrs) or the car.

any help appreciated. I showed to one guy and he said he heard "something" and would put a new tranny in but "no guarantees".
