Hold button does not work [AT]
 

I bought a used Gen 2.5 Automatic 1997 stock B6 engine and this is my first car so needless to say, I am not very knowledgeable with cars. I got curious about this HOLD button on my shifter because nothing happens when I push it so I tried to search about it. Unfortunately, most of the HOLD problems were mostly about HOLD light.

I just want to ask what could be the problem with the car with a non-functioning HOLD button?

Is there any way for me to troubleshoot/fix this? I said I am a novice with cars but with proper instructions I know I can do it (if the tools to be used are available). I have learned so much from online forums and have also learned to do some of the DIYs.
