heat shield
 

i just recently put on a shortshifter on my 93 mx6 and wen i shift it hits the heat shield and maybe the exhaust so what should i do about that.

Sounds like there is two options. You can either put the original shifter back in, or if it possible to modify the shield. Is it hitting the shield on the body or exhaust? See where it is hitting by looking at the bright metal due to scratch marks and see if it can be bent. Jack the car up safely and see with help of a friend where it is hitting while moving through the gears. That is a bad side effect of short shifters, they are the same length as factory but just change the fulcrum of the shifter. It means more shifter sticking out the bottom of the car, has to go somewhere!

i think i have the same problem except mines an auto, and it always makes this ackward noise around 3000rpm before it shifts

im sorry it is hitting the exhaust exactly where the catalytic i think its that connects with the silencer so i dont know if i should get a custom exhaust or what and i can put the original shifter on because its broken.so any ideas on what to do plz.thanx

If the shifter is hitting the top of the catalytic converter you may be able to lower the exh system and see where on the converter its hitting. If it is barely touching, you can tell by the marks being left and take a hammer and tap the top heat shield. Don't hit too hard as not to damage the inside of the converter. You can also do as you said and replace the exhaust system at a muffler shop and relocate a new converter out of the way if there is room.

As to the other post concerning the automatic trans shifter hitting on the exh , I don't see how thats possible. I have not heard of a short shifter for an auto, at least not on a Mazda.
