'Fog' lights vs. 'Driving' lights
 

Ok, sorry if this is a re-hash of a well-beaten issue.

I have an '05 6S wagon. The lower bumper has the egg-crates. The lighting stalk has the indicator for what should be fog lights, and the beam they throw off is short & wide enough that I consider it a fog light. HOWEVER, everything I see for 'factory' lighting kits in the lower bumper is calling them a 'fog light'.

My guestion is, are these shops all calling the lower bumper set 'fog' lights even though they are really a 'driving' light configuration?

I'm not sure I understand the question. If it's a wide short beam it's a fog light. If it's wired to go off when you flip the high beams on it's a fog light. Driving lights throw a long narrow beam sometimes called a pencil beam. Aftermarket lights often fit a fog or driving light into the same size housing. Where the light goes is a function of the reflector and pattern on the glass lens.

Right, but the ones already part of my headlight buckets are definitely 'fog' lights. Yet everyone advertises the kits for the lower bumper as 'factory fog' lights. 2 sets of fog lights makes no sense. What I am wondering is if shops are just using the name 'fog' for the lower set, even though they may truly be a 'driving' pattern.
