Engine Got Wet - Check Engine Light Stays On
I have a 1999 Miata and I was cleaning under the hood and apparently I went overboard. The engine got some water on top of the block and when I restarted the car it sputtered at first but after a couple minutes it seemed to run fine.
While it was misfiring the check engine light came on and now it will not shut off even after I have driven it close to an hour. The car only has 28,000 miles on it.:( |
1. Turn the courtesy light on (leave a door open).
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. 3. Wait apprx. 30 secs. and reconnect battery. Start engine, do a little drivearound, see how things go. You will have to reset your clock and radio station tuning presets. |
You might have to do more than that with the radio. Fortunately, there are already some threads on the forum for dealing with a locked-out Mazda stereo.

Oldeng your right the fault code was most likely a emission fault code , the code is stored in the volatile memory of the p.c.m so removing the power should cure the fault.
