Engine Flooding

I have a Maxda RX-8, and the engine will turn over but it won't start. Think its flooded, any recommendations?

Still under warranty? If so call Mazda Roadside Assistance at 1-800-866-1998 and have towed to Mazda dealer at no cost to you. Very common problem if engine was started and then shut off before allowing to warm up..
Don't forget that powertrain warranty has been extended to 5 years or 60,000 miles by SSP 67 for RX8.

RE: Engine Flooding

There are some flooding issues on alot more cars lately. The new and wonderful ethanol mix into already crappy winter mix fuel is not helping.[:'(] What brand and grade of gas are you using? I work at a dealer and we have seen over 15% ethanol lately in the cheap stuff. You can try cranking the begesus out of it in 30 second spurts with the gas pedal fully depressed (giving a minute in between to let the starter cool back down). If this does not work you will have to get it towed to the dealer. If it really cranks awhile before you get it running, I would change the oil and filter just in case fuel washed by the rings.

A few tips for future reference: name brand gas only!!!!, try mid grade instead of premium (it has better volatility hence better cold start properties), and make sure to let it run at least a few minutes everytime it is started cold (i.e. if you are moving it in your driveway, or something, but not driving it.)

Good luck!!!

Just like he said, if you start it don't cut it off untill it completes warm up cycle. If you do it might flood. If it does, remove plugs, remove fuel pump relay and spin it over several times and let it set 10 minutes do it again. Replace plugs ( new ones are best) and relay. It should start right away. Welcome to the rotory world.
