dealer ripping me off????

please help, vehicle is sitting at the dealer and I need to tell them something

I have a 2004 MPV V6. It developed a misfire on the highway and we had it towed to the dealer. They tell us it has a bad coil and needs a replacement. No problem there. Here are the problems:
They tell me the intake needs to come off to replace a coil. That true?
They tell me that I really need to replace all three coils on that side because the labor is to high to take off the intake(about $220). Is that really necessary?
They also are trying to sell me a $150 fuel injection system cleaner.

I am thinking do one coil and skip the injection cleaner, which reduces the bill from $530 to $260.

Thanks!!!!!!

Coil? Do you mean spark plug? Have them replace all the spark plugs. Also get an oil change and new oil filter. Skip the fuel injection system cleaner.

You need to find out what causes the misfire. Faulty spark plug/s, damaged/faulty coil may cause misfiring and fuel injection problems. In some cars, like BMW, the fuel injector will shut off automatically once computer detects misfiring, but it will restart once problem is solve. It may be only one cylinder misfiring. But usually it is a good practice to replace all coils and plugs at the same time. Check the owner's manual for the recommended distance after which you need to replace plugs. But you would probably need to get the OBD2 scanner to get DTC codes to get more information.

FWIW: Here's what I'd do.

Replace the defective coil.
Replace all six plugs
Skip the fuel injector cleaner and run some OTC cleaner via your gas tank

It is true that plugs and coils on bank 1 (firewall side) are not easily accessed.

$150 for (I assume) a pressurized injector cleaner? BLAH!!! I paid $55 to have that done to my wife's 15yr old Saturn (that she refuses to give up on.)

Other than that, I think NightSwimmer has hit the nail on the head w/the rest....

re: coil

i think you better know which is which among coil are faulty... i guess 1 faulty coil doesn't need a car towing. more or less you have about 2-3 faulty coil. replace them and replace spark plug and skip the injector cleaner... about labor i don't have any idea... co'z i service my car by my self....
