Yeah - removal of the EGR and intake just to get to the PCV sounds like "type 2 fun".

I'm guess now that I know the car has this deal too, I should add to my service plan to also do somewhat more frequent coolant drain and fills to keep internal corrosion at bay (30k or 3 years maybe???). Suppose this is something I could do.

For the transmission with the pendulum torque converter I will take your advice Calisto, I think you said every 15k drain/fill (which I can do) and every 30k pan drop to replace the filter (mechanic does this, over my pay grade).

Also am putting in a "top tier" gas mandate for my daughters to follow. With 3 of them sharing the car that's like corralling cats, but I will try. Maybe a shot of Techron in the tank before oils changes too (probably this a placebo since we are talking DI).

We should get a petition to Mazda on the CD to allow it to be user controlled. I'd even be happy with a software patch that deactivates it when Sport mode is engaged.

Even on pre 2020 engine the PCV is not a fun task to clean. But thus far I have scoped enough post 2016 Skiactiv engine that I don't see an issue with the system at least up to around 170k miles. There is some small accumulation oi oil film that eventually coat the main body of the intake but as far as I can see it does not vaporize and continue into the combustion chamber enough to be alarming.

^^^^This is a very easy service to do with simple garage tools and a pair of RYNO Ramps ^^^^

There is discussion about this on a thread not sure where. I would hold out and watch for a ECU update for Mazda or an aftermarket program offered to adjust this feature that some Mazda have to suit your control of that system. Watch for upcoming not programs from Versa Tuner

I recently purchased a 2026 CX-5 Preferred, which I am greatly enjoying. The Gen 3 fixed my two big complaints about the Gen 2.

I too am getting mixed answers from sources as to whether or not my 2026 has CD. Mine does have i-stop.

I reached out to Mazdausa and they stated that the USA CX-5s have i-stop, but not CD, and that CD is available in other markets on the 2026. I also contacted Mazda Corp directly and they stated that all 2026's have CD.

I located one official engine diagram showing where the two CD solenoids are located/mounted on the cylinder head and there is at least one private image of those mounted solenoids shared on another forum by a person who has the "M" as the 8th character in the VIN.

We also have a 2024 CX-5 S-Select with the "L" symbol as the 8th character in the VIN meaning that this build does not have CD. When I park my 2026 next to our 2024, pop the hoods, and pull the engine covers, I do not see Cylinder Deactivation solenoids mounted on either cylinder head. My 2026 has an "A" as the 8th character in the VIN and there is no means of locating anything about CD in the new 12.9" center info screen like there was in the Gen 2 models.

QUESTION: At some point in recent model years, did Mazda alter the design of their CD system and therefore eliminate external CD solenoids?

SnakeCharmer Welcome to the forum

your VIN is the absolute way to get the information on your Mazda 2nd to no other source! I suggest contacting Mazda USA again or go to your Mazda dealership, the service department and have a Mazda certified mechanic show you if you do or do not have the items in question and that person will point it out you if you do as per your VIN information. VIN information for any vehcle sold in the USA "must" have any and all vehcle information which includes what you are asking for, or it would be illegal to be sold in the USA.
You are just not getting informed answers from whomever you have been talking to?

While anyone can find this I only posted the basic information only there is a lot more infromation to this ...

Legal Requirements for VIN-Based Vehicle Information in the U.S.

In the United States, vehicle manufacturers are legally required to encode specific vehicle information into the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) so that it is available for official use, tracking, and consumer access.

Federal VIN Requirements

Under 49 CFR Part 565, the NHTSA sets the rules for VIN assignment and content. Section 565.15 specifies that each motor vehicle must have a VIN that contains certain data elements

Disclosure and Access Laws

The 15 U.S.C. Chapter 28 “Disclosure of Automobile Information” requires manufacturers to provide certain vehicle data to dealers and consumers. This includes the VIN and related details that identify the vehicle’s make, model, and production information uscode.house.gov. While this law focuses on dealer and consumer disclosure, the VIN itself is the primary vehicle identifier that carries all the required information.
