Cigarete lighter to USB charger
Hello,
I've bought Cigarette lighter charger to dual USB port. It works fine when I charge phone but my goal was to use USB port to connect another USB device ... in my case it was wireless adapter for CarPlay. It didn't work. I had to connect this wireless adapter direct to car USB port. Today I tried USB thumb drive with some audio files and again ... it worked from car port but didn't work from cigarette lighter converter. Hence my question: should I find another car cigarette lighter charger/USB converter which will not only charge but also allow to use another USB devices? Maybe it's not possible for any cigarette lighter to USB. E.g. someone said that is one should work. What do you think ? Thanks |
I contacted manufacturer and they said me that Car chargers are designed to only charge other devices but not use as usb entry point for other functions

My understanding is that you need a dedicated USB port to feed Carplay. No "converter" will work for that use.

in my '25 cx-5 the only ports that will work with carplay are the 2 usb-c ports in the arm rest...you can't plug a wireless carplay adapter into a 12v socket and expect it to work cause it can't communicate with the head unit, remember the car is made for wired carplay, not wireless...it has to be plugged into the dedicated carplay ports...the location of the dedicated carplay ports should be listed in your user manual...i am now looking into a thumbdrive for music but i haven't pulled the trigger yet...here is the info i found in my manual about that topic
