Broken Cigarette Lighter

I use my cigarette lighter for my cell phone and sat. radio. It just gave up the ghost when we pluged an inverter. I have looked at all the fuses but no luck.........any ideas??????? It's a small problem but very inconvenient.........[&o]

check the wiring. Or the unit itself may have been fried, or just old.

Thanks for the advice.......checked both those things and that doesn't seem to be the problem. If you think of anything else drop me a line.......Thanks

I would suggest getting a test light and check for voltage inside the socket...and make sure there is power at the fuse and across the fuse. If you just physically check the fuse, it can still have no power across it. I would check all fuses too with a test light, not just the one. If everything else works fine, this cannot be very complicated to figure out.

RE: Broken Cigarette Lighter

If the fuses all check out ok and still no power to the lighter socket then you will probably need to replace the socket. There is a small fusible link at the rear of the lighter socket that melts in the event of excessive heat from say a lighter sticking in and not popping out or from a continuous higher current draw from an accessory. It looks like a small 'L' shaped piece of wire on the back side of the socket assembly.
