Hi All -

The airbag light in my 2003 Mazda Protege has been brinking for quite awhile. A few years ago I took it to the dealer and they said they could do some kind of quick fix that would hopefully make the light stop. The fix was about $100. No idea what they did. It stopped the light for a little while, but the light came back.

I finally got the car into a garage (not the dealer this time) last week and they ran a diagnostic. They came up with Code 3 (SAS Control Module) and Code 26 (Driver Side Airbag). They cleared the codes and Code 3 went away. However, Code 26 came back.

The garage quoted me about $500 (parts and labor) to fix the Code 26 issue with the Driver Side Airbag.

Does that price sound right for that fix? It seems so high!

Are airbag issues like this ever covered by warranties? I know it's an old car, but are there longer warranties for important safety features like airbags?

Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

Airbags are cheap nowadays. Just go to Ebay and buy one for 75 bucks and replace it yourself. They are easy to replace.
