99 protege no fuel or spark

car was running fine then the battery started going dead so i would charge it every night i figured the alternator was bad but i bought another used battery for it and after changing the battery the car wont start . i tried using starting fluid and got nothing.i pulled the fuel line off and had no fuel, i pulled the spark plug boot and coils and i had no spark. i put the battery in correctly ive changed many batteries and i didnt get the cables backwards and i checked all the fuses and they were good. i have no clue what to start checking or replacing please help.

Turn off your radio, and everything else that makes noise. Turn the key to "On". When you first turn your key (don't crank it) do you hear any noise at all? I am new to mazdas..but most cars you should be able to hear your fuel pump prime. That's the first thing I'd do.

check for power at fuel pump fuse and relay, not familiar with ignition system on that car but there is usually a fuse for it also where you can check for voltage, if not sure of how you can usually get a descent wiring diagram from haynes repair manual or if you have a little more experience you can go to "alldatadiy.com" and get a 1 year subscription for you vehicle for the same price, the wiring diagrams are better and overall the is more information, but its alittle harder to use unless you have a dtc.
