Default 98 323 Astina Starting Issue

Hi all,
I have had a look through a few threads & didn't see one covering my issue.

I have my mother inlaws 98 323 Astina automatic with a starting issue. It has been happening on & off for a while, just worse more recently.
You turn key to on its ok, turn to start and there is nothing, no clicking of starter motor, nothing.
Then turn the key back and a few times and it starts no problem. It is starting without tapping the starter motor.
Have noticed like an arcing noise when going from accessories to on. Not sure if its a normal noise that you don't usually notice until something goes wrong.
Can be started in park & neutral.
Have checked battery terminals, cleaned & made sure tight.
So it is starting but intermittently.
Any ideas would be a help.

Check with Mazda if its part of the ignition switch recall.

This happened to me a long time ago in my Ford Probe. RACV Technician told me it was my security alarm messing up and would cost me thousands to fix so left me there on the side of the road. So i jumped in the forums and some kid said there was a electrical connection near the dip stick that I should remove and blow the dust off and guess what, started straight away lol.

I wonder if there is the same thing on these cars lol. That arc noise probably just your fuel relay switch sending power to your fuel pump when you turn the key to On position.

The fuel pump relays go bad on these cars all the time. Thats why I can buy these cars for peanuts. People think car has major issue when its just something small lol.

Ive noticed you guys get used in this forum. People, pop in, ask a question, get the answers they want and leave and never say thank you. I had one guy say thank you to me lol.
