I have been having problems with my pedal. It only needs to be off the floor a 1/2 inch for the car to move. Now the car is in gear and moves when the pedal is all the way to the floor. I looked at the brake fluid reservoir and the back half is now empty. Is the clutch cylinder gone? What fluid do I need to put in it to try and get home as I now have to push the shifter hard and rev the engine to get it in gear.

Probably do have a clutch release cylinder on the transmission leaking. Just fill the resevoir back up with regular Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid. If you have air in the hydraulic system it is not necessarily going to go away just by adding fluid. You could try pumping the pedal quite a few times after topping off the fluid level and would hopefully be enough to get you limped home.

 

Thanks. I was also wondering if the slave cylinder is located in the transmission or on the outter casing. I think that that's my problem.

 

It is bolted to the outer bellhousing of the trans on the lower front area. You will see a rubber accordion type boot on it. Peel this boot back away from the body of the cylinder and if fluid runs out then the internal seals are leaking.

 

Thanks. I looked at it and pulled the boot away and she was flowing good. I've been trying to get one and they are asking what the bore size is, 3/4 or 5/8. Do you have any idea?

 

Inner bore diameter for the slave cylinder is .750" or 3/4". Master cylinder would be .625 or 5/8".
