1996 MazdaProtege: Please Help Me Identify this Part (see picture)

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

My 96 Protege's AC is not working. The suspicion is that the refrigerant is leaking, and my mechanic suspects that the source of the leak from the location indicated in the picture attached.

We have two questions.

1. What is the name of the part (indicated by the arrow)? We suspect it is upper portion of the "Receiver/Drier". Is this the case?

2. Where does the wire (indicated by the circle) connect to? We suspect it connected to some kind of switch, but where?

I will appreciate any tips in this regard....

Thanks PS

yes, this is the receiver/dryer. There should be a small harness with a blue and a green wire. In our '98 these wires are taped to the headlight harness. I assume that they monitor pressure or temperature to cycle the A/C on and off.

Thanks very much. I see the Rockauto carries some parts, and I can get the receiver/dryer + pressure switch from them. However, I need the connector (the part that connects the wires).

Any reliable place to get aftermarket Mazda parts ?

cheers, PS

I know for most other makes that I have worked on it is very hard to find those connectors individually. A junk yard would probably be an easier place to find that connector. Find the connector and cut it with a couple inches of wire still attached. Then you will have to splice your existing wires to the JY connector wires.
