1988 mazda 323 white smoke condition

Hello everyone. I have a 1988 Mazda 323 non turbo which had a sludged engine from a previous owner which was smoking from the exhaust system badly. I replaced the engine with a JDM motor and the vehicle still has a billowing white smoke condition only on first initial start up when the vehicle is cold in the morning. It will go away after 5 minutes and then i will not see it again. By billowing I mean it covers the entire block. The mechanic and I use that term lightly went back in and replaced the valve guide seals. Thisdid not resolve the problem. I checked the oil for the white foam for a headgasket problem... nothing there... oil clean. The antifreeze is good too and there seems to be no loss of anti freeze or oil.Could there bea problem with thetransmission modulator? I am praying for the best. This is odd because I thought a headgasket would smoke all of the time.. Please let me know what you think... Harris
