Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone experienced this problem with your car.
So this is probably backwards as most complain of mushy brakes. But when my wifes car sits overnight or for extended periods the brake pedal is rock hard (when depressing) to turn the car on. After its totally normal. My wife said the pedal is a lot harder to push down in the morning or evening after its been sitting. If you run to the store and come back out in 15-30mins its normal but left alone for several hours it will be really stiff again. I dont often drive it, but this morning I did and definitely noticed it being harder and had little play when turning the car on. Until of course the car was ON and then it's travel went down further.

Thanks!

I was washing my roof and I noticed that I was missing two of my screws for my Cross Bars that connect to my roof rack rails. I was relieved the car wash didn't grab and damage my rails and roof. Or fly off and hit a car behind me.

It doesn't seen like anyone sells OEM replacements. And I didn't find any posts here about it. So I purchased these shoulder eye bolts and they work perfectly.
https://a.co/d/00A92nUw

They are M6 x 42 mm shoulder eye bolts and they are stainless steel painted black. The eye holes makes provides same ability to connect straps and makes it easy to adjust the bars when needed. And they aren't going to rust. And they can handle more weight (200lbs) than the racks can (165lbs).

Hope this can help others.

2021 CX-5 Signature 51k miles, turbo
Called dealer where care was purchased new to schedule PA state inspection. Ask them to drain and replace oil in the differentials along with draining trans oil and replace the filter. I was told that Mazda does not recommend draining and replacing the trans oil as it is lifetime, nor replacing the filter as it is a screen. If I insist on the trans work cost would be ~$650 for parts and labor. No gasket is available so silicon would be used.
Anyone have any thoughts on the trans work or have had the dealer do the work?
thanks Gary

If anyone has a 2026 CX-5, can you tell me if it is possible to have Google Assistant work if you also are using Apple Car Play? And if so, how did you set it up? It seems as though if I have one working, as soon as I try to set up the other one, it undoes the first one.

Firstly sorry for the life story here, hopefully someone is able to point me in the right direction to hopefully get this solved without being too costly, also just to point out I am UK based.

My partners 2020 CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv D has decided to throw an engine management light and is also complaining of engine oil level too high. For a bit of context the car is serviced yearly at approximately 9000-10000 mile intervals. It's last service was done in December last year and it has done approximately 4000 miles since. The car itself has done about 60000 miles and the daily commute is a 9 mile each way 20 minute journey that mostly consists of motorway. This isn't the first time we've had the high oil warning come on but it is the first time there has been an engine management light too. Last time was maybe 9 months ago and we had the oil level corrected by the garage that does the services.

Yesterday I followed the Mazda stated procedure for checking the oil level manually and as you can see in the picture below I would say it is ever so slightly over the max line, I've read about the oil dilution issues causing rising oil level problems and that the X marker on the dip stick is Mazda's maximum allowable dilution. I wanted to know if this meant I had a decent amount of wiggle room still before an oil change would be needed or should I realistically be looking at having it changed immediately. It does seem slightly extreme to me to need to have it changed after 4000 miles when the service schedule says 12 months or 12,500 miles. As this isn't the first time we've experienced the high oil level issue I'm wondering if the sensor is just that spot on or based on the fact the level is pretty much at the max line and not near the X dilution line it could perhaps indicate a faulty sensor.

I put a cheap OBD2 reader on just to see what information I could gather regarding the engine management light, naturally it did kick up a code related to the high oil level. There were also additional codes which I will put below as well as a picture, a quick google for each of them and the alleged most common cause for multiple is some form of sensor malfunction. I did want to ask for advice regarding getting a reasonably priced and recommended OBD2 reader and program or app for Mazda. I just used a cheap generic one that I had lying around, I couldn't get it to connect to the paid for app FORScan lite on Iphone and ended up using the free car scanner Iphone app instead.

The codes are as follows:

P24C6 (00) - From what I read this is linked to a faulty particulate matter sensor

P252F (00) - This is the high engine oil code, most commonly caused by diesel fuel dilution from failed or interrupted regeneration attempts

P1640 (00) - I was a little more stumped with this one, it seems to indicate that powertrain DTCs are available in another control module such as the dosing control unit. My little scanner wouldn't read the DCU. common causes allege to be faulty NOx sensor or issues with the DEF/UREA system.

P1260 (00) - This is an archived code that I think is just perhaps related to when the key battery was on its way out and needed replacing

P0421 (00) - This one is another archived code but has me the most concerned. Google informs me that its common causes are either a failing catalytic converter, possible exhaust leak or yet another possible sensor issue, this time one of the O2 sensors.

I realise there is possibly quite a lot going on here and we are definitely weighing up simply taking it to a Mazda specialist over main dealer as prices are just astronomically high, but even just to have either of them run diagnostics is priced at £150-£200 which I presume is using their OBD2 tools and programs and formulating a proposed work plan based on the codes returned. I'm just trying to ascertain if I can get on top of some or all of this myself, I would say I'm semi car literate but definitely have a stronger experience and knowledge of working on early 2000s cars and not the more modern or Japanese cars. Any and all advice is appreciated and if you require more information don't hesitate to ask.

My initial plan if I was going to try to tackle this was to start by getting a better scanner and program for this specific brand of vehicle. Perform an oil and filter change followed by a reset to the oil maintenance monitor and oil data system for the oil high warning. Remove and attempt to clean up the PM and NOx Sensors. Clear the codes and then take it for a decent run to do a regeneration cycle and see what still persists after that.

Thanks for the help.

Hello all, recent owner of 2026 CX-5 2.5 S SE. Can anyone clear up a little confusion over WiFi in this vehicle. Apparent my new vehicle comes with free trial for WiFi hotspot via AT&T. Dealer told me 1 year free, Mazda phone support told me 3 months. When I go to website that Mazda emailed me link for and I enter my VIN, it says 1 month of 2 GB free. I use Apple Car Play with a plan of 3 GB data per month limit. Not certain why I need a Hotspot other than for Google Assistant? Without WiFi in my car, how does my car connect to outside world for say Google Maps or SOS call if I don’t have my cell with me? If anyone is using Mazda Hotspot, or AT&T, or your own personal Hotspot, how much data does it use? Current I use Siri for directions and it uses my cell 5G network.

To add to confusion, when I turn on WiFi Client mode, I get a message: Vehicle services currently using vehicle embedded connectivity will be disabled. What would be effected? There seems to be no documentation on this. Any input or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello all,

We’ve a 2018 CX-5 Akera (2.5l petrol) and recently began getting some odd electrics related behaviour.

The driver’s side mirror will not retract (neither automatically nor with the manual selection). The passenger side one retracts and extends automatically on engine shutdown and start up. I’ve been through the reset procedure several times to no avail.

The driver’s seat has lost its memory setting ability. Again, been through the setting procedure multiple times to no avail. The seat needs to be driven to the desired position (using the controls mounted on the side of the seat) for a drive after which the car is parked and locked. Upon returning to the car and opening the door via the remote, the driver’s seat will spontaneously run to the rearmost position and has to be positioned back to the desired driving position – again with the seat mounted controls.

The temperature gauge used to religiously sit a smidgeon below the 100 degree mark – summer or winter, a/c ON or OFF etc - but of late has (a) only risen to around the 80-90 degree mark and (ii) varies in temperature for no apparent reason (e.g. unlike coasting down a long hill where I’d expect it to cool a little etc) by jumping a tad cooler then jumping up again whilst in a steady state of kmh/rpm.

So, has anyone else had any of these symptoms and, if so, what was/were the fix/fixes?

Are OBD readers capable of detecting electrical faults?

Any and all comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

New 2025 cx-5 select.
We drive down a steep dirt mountain road. We go down in first gear, no throttle, no brakes.
Every car for 26 years, no problems. Different gearing makes for different speeds seen, but first usually works well.
The CX-5’s first gear seems to be a good ratio for this, relatively low. So going down in manual 1st
However it appears something is giving gas while doing this, can feel slight speed up, mileage gauge drops from max to around center. Indicating throttle.
Is this skyactive at work, thinking we need to go faster? Can I disable it?
Not a huge issue now, but in snow, big issue.
Engaging off road button does not help.
Thanks

Hello all, new owner of a 2026 CX-5 SE with a question about connected services and Google assistant. I can use the MyMazda app for remote functions such as start, locate, etc. My understanding is that I have one free year then have to buy a subscription. Anyone know what this costs?

Also, tried to use Google assistant but it wants me logged into a WIFI network. When I’m on the road, that won’t work. There was an option to sign into network, when I clicked that, error saying webpage not available, long web address starting with https://myvehicle.att.com… Anyone have this issue with google assistant? Thanks in advance 😀

Hello all, recent owner of new 2026 CX-5 SE. I asked sales before purchase if I can play music from a USB flash drive. Was shown 2 USB ports inside center console storage area in demo vehicle. Plugged mine in and at first it didn’t show on center display under option for music. Unplugged it, in again and bingo, was able to play my music. I don’t see this referenced anywhere in the manual, which only talks about USB as power/charging connection. Is anyone using these ports to play music?

As a side note, I had the Telemetrics Malfunction on day 1 and had to have service disconnect battery to clear that issue (known problem, no fix yet from Mazda yet). I read online where someone felt a USB adapter may have caused Telemetrics issue. I didn’t use an adapter. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
I've found the split-screen setting in Nav, but can't seem to get it to play anything on the other side of the screen but audio apps (Amazon Music, Audible, etc.). I played with it for ~15 minutes, but could not get the Waze map to display w/ the Nav map. Am I missing something? This is AA if it matters.
