Any help to avoid breaking the bank. 2015 Mazda 6 GT. Rough idle, almost stalls but doesn’t. Have one code P0172. It could be air or fuel, I don’t know, but I would prefer not to start changing parts for nothing. MAF is clean, spark plugs gapped. In the passed before the code, I may have smelt fuel in the car. Help, please

I have a 05 2.3l 6 214k developed knock. Looked for replacement motor couldn't find a 05 single coil pack under 105k, Found a very clean 08 with 4 coil packs 52K bought it for a very good price! After research I knew I had to change all accessory, pulleys and timing cover to use old wiring harness so ecu would work. Nothing I had read said anything about cam sensor clearance of tone ring on intake cam! After installing 08 motor upon thing to start it it would fire for a moment then quit and give a PO340 code. New sensor same result. more research found some leads suggested that on the 08 had a taller tone ring on intake cam because it used a 3 wire hall effect sensor need less clearances than the 2 wire magnetic 05 sensor which needed 4mm of clearance! Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any solutions for this other than swapping the intake cams (a major problem with motor in car not impossible but very difficult. Has anyone found a way to raise the 05 sensor 4mm or use a different one from a ford with a 2 wire shorter sensor? Any help would be great!!!
