And how easy it is to make a catastrophic mistake. When I was learning to write the logging file for my EVO a full stop instead of a comma made it work or not. I haven't dived into the later LS GM ECU's because I don't have a car to play with. I can't imagine the number of interacting maps in the Skyactive ECU. I just love the 1/2hr flash tunes done for big money by some of the so called professionals.

Find the section on the forum that pertains to your model Miata, NA, NB, NC, or ND and start reading and asking questions. You'll find that the folks over there are more than willing to help you out and you won't get any condescending replies like you might get here.

My mechanic says he can do a ECU tune on the Miata that might give it a little more horsepower. I'm just not sure how far I want to "GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE" of adding things like a Turbocharger or Supercharger just give myself a little more passing power. It's not like I plan on hotrodding it around like I've seen the younger generation does with their Miatas!!

Not sure what he is using and a bit skeptical. never the less the most you will get with ECU calibration is improved throttle response and "maybe" 3-5 hp gain MAYBE depending on what software is being used and the experience level of the person doing the calibration.
Regardless before you have anyone do anything to your ECU make sure they are able to FIRST download the complete ECU so you have an uploadable back up. Any advise that it is not needed or the calibrating LOCKING your ECU is not advisable and indicates an armature ECU calibrator. Going to any forum the answer is still the same or at least should be with real qualified ECU/EFI Performance Calibrators and not just random people claiming they know how to Calibrate an ECU. . And I would be very cautious of what advise you get from them! At least on this forum you get empirical information that can be fact check to support the information. |
