dpf removal without an ECU remap

Hi, i recently bought a 08 mazda3 1.6d takara and within 6 weeks the dpf was was totally blocked and the car pretty much shut down (cut out after 1500rpm) and the 2 pipes with pressure sensors blew.

So, my mechanic removed the dpf honeycomb with hammer and chisel, put the dpf back on and now everything seems to be ok and no EM light etc WITHOUT A REMAP. However, i fully expected that the car would go into limp mode and EM light would come on straight away but it hasn't...yet!!

So, i fully expected that i'd need a remap and have budgeted for this, but, just wanted to know is the remap actually essential after a dpf removal (and if so or not why) for the car's health and longevity??

All feedback, opinions and info would be much appreciated

Richard

DPF Removal

Hi

Yes in time the dpf light will come back on, you will need to get the ecu remapped.
because you've removed the dpf the car will try to regen all the time & dump the fuel in the oil
keep eye on your oil level, hope this helps

John,

Many thanks for your reply, just a further 2 questions:-

1. Now there is much less back pressure why haven't the pressure sensors immediately picked up on that and either sent the car into limp mode or turned EM light on?
2. When you mention regens do you mean passive or active? Wouldn't an active regen only occur when either the pressure reaches a certain level or the dpf is clogged at a certain level (eg. 50%)? But with no dpf at all the pressure should never increase and the dpf is 0% clogged. My car will rarely perform passive regens too as my daily commute is only a 15mile round trip.

Regards

Richard

plug under the hood. DPF diesel particulate filter can be modified or removed without causing any errors or abnormal car behavior.Emulator is completely controlled and interfaced with our software via USB cable and dongle, which allows to modify, optimize DPF FAP settings for different ECUs.
