The Mazda RX-8 History

Interior

What is a modern sports if it is not comfortable and packed full of modern amenities? While cloth seats are standard, this car seems a bit bare without the gorgeous soft leather seats with a hollowed out engine rotor molded into the headrest area and differently colored center sections, which match the other accents, such as the doors and steering wheel grips. The front seats have a race inspired feel to them, which help nicely in keeping the driver and passenger snug during spirited romps on a windy road; and helping to keep those front seated passengers the seats offer a heating feature, 8-way power driver's seat with power lumbar adjustment, and driver's seat-cushion tilt adjustment. The back seats also carry a smooth, almost bucket seat feel to them, and with the center stack running down into the center console which runs all the way into the back seat, the rear seats have all of the comforts as the front seat, except for a steering wheel. Keeping the driver informed as to the workings of the engine and engine monitoring system is the three dimensional gauge cluster.

Most of the interior is black with silver accents, except for the interior colored inserts mentioned. While black plastic is the norm, just about everything can be upgraded to leather, from the shifter and emergency brake handle, to the center console cover and door panels. Aluminum race inspired pedals are offered in place of the plain black pedals which go nicely with the black scuff guards with aluminum inserts. While the speed and handling abilities of this RX-8 are more than enough to keep a driver happy, even on the longest rides, passengers may be lead to be bored, or simply jealous of the driver. So, in order to keep them right at home as well, a 100-watt AM/FM/CD stereo with 6 speakers, including two tweeters is the standard sound system, but for those audiophiles, a 300-watt Bose 9-speaker audio system with "Audio Pilot" automatic noise compensation technology, in-dash six disc CD changer, and Sirius radio are offered, and are standard in the Shinka model. To keep everyone comfortable in every climate, the RX-8 is equipped with dual zone climate control, with duct work run to give the rear passengers their own cool or hot air. The interior is like something out of a high end luxury car, with race inspiration poured into the mix as well, and with all of the adjustable measures in the interior, few people will find the interior to be uncomfortable due to their height.
