Originally slated to be the Pegasus, the Mazda Millenia is the midsize luxury car. The car is part of Mazda's luxury bland, Amati. The Mazda Millenia hit the market in 1995, the same year as its biggest competitor, the Toyota Avalon. Instead of competing with the Avalon, the Millenia was introduced as a entry level luxury car with the Mazda brand. The Millenia took the place of the beloved Mazda 929 in the United States.
The Mazda Millenia is the only car in the world to use the 2.25 Liter Miller Cycle V6 engine, but this didn't seem to promote sales. The Mazda Millenia seemed to stall out in the sales department, as its biggest competitor the Toyota Avalon, celebrated great sales numbers. Because sales never really picked up for the Millenia, production stopped and the Mazda six replaced the car lineup in 2002. It's said that less than 100 Mazda Millenia models were sold during its production.
The Mazda Millenia was available with two engine choices which were the 2.5 Liter V6 or the 2.25 V6 miller cycle engine. Though the Millenia seemed like it would sell well, the Toyota Avalon stole is place in the spotlight and it just never quite caught up. Luckily, the Mazda Corporation experienced much more success with the Millenia replacement, the Mazda6.
