The term B-series pickups can be misleading because Mazda has actually sold two different compact trucks under the name B-series. The B-series is named for its engine displacement. Speaking of engine displacement, the B2300 used a 2300 cc engine while the B4000 used a much bigger 4000 cc engine. The B-Series has been around since 1961 when it began in Japan and that was just the beginning of something that would become very popular with pickup lovers. Though the B-Series line started in Japan, it is no longer available there.
The B-Series kicked off with the B1500 and the B-Series continues to the present day. The B-Series line changed in 1994 when the North American B-Series became the Ford Ranger and the international version continued using the Mazda name. This can be confusing because the Mazda truck is sold with the Ford Ranger name in many areas. The B-Series also has another member, the Ford Everest which is a SUV, and was an offshoot of the series that has been well received. The B-Series has also been sold as the Bravo in some markets, though most commonly in Australia.
Internationally the B-Series has been sold under several names such as the Mazda Fighter, The Mazda Proceed, Ford Courier, Mazda Bounty, Mazda Drifter, Mazda Karere, Mazda B-Series, Mazda Truck, and the Mazda Rotary Pickup with a Mazda Wankel engine.
