Like all new Mazda products, safety is always a key in development, as it is
a key in most car buyers decisions. Standard safety options are dual
2nd-generation front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS), Front
seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side air curtains with coverage for front
and rear seats, front safety belt pretensioners with force limiters that
react in fractions of a second, front and rear side-impact door beams, rear
seat LATCH child-seat anchors, including upper tether anchors, tire pressure
monitoring system, and Front and rear 2.5-mph bumpers. These ensure that
the precious contents of the RX-8 are kept safe in case the brakes or
suspension find something that they can not overcome, or another driver who
is simply being careless.
In order to keep the RX-8 where you leave it
whenever you get where you are going, an engine immobilizer security system,
Anti-theft alarm system, Internal trunk release system, and Keyless remote
with panic feature are all standard, along with an optional shock control
alarm system. Some other features, which have already been mentioned are
the ABS and EBD systems, as well as the self leveling Xenon lighting system
and the limited slip differential.
