The Mazda 626 is a great family car produced by Mazda spefically for the Mazda export market. The model or inspiration for the Mazda 626 was the Mazda Capella, it also replaced the Mazda 616, Mazda 618 and RX-2 in 1979 and continued to be sold through 2002. The
Mazda6 became the Mazda family car and had a good run, selling 4, 345, 279, 626 models world wide! Not bad for a family car! The Mazda 626 was also sold under the names of the Ford Telestar outside of the United States as well as the Ford Mondeo.
The Mazda 626 was eventuall replaced with the GG platform Mazda6 in 2002. The Mazda6 is currently sold in three different body styles. The sedan, 5-door hatch back, and wagon are the body styles to choose from. Sales continue to be good as the Mazda 626 is replaced by the Mazda 6. The car is esentially the same, there has just been improvements with a new 4-cylinder 2.3 L with 160 horsepower. The new Mazda6 will be a guide for models in the coming years such as the 2006 Ford Focus. While the Mazda 626 is no longer made, the basis of it is so great that it still serves as a model for future cars. Mazda knew how well loved the 626 was, so just one month after the 626 was pulled off the market the Mazda6 made its entry.
