I have a 1999 Mazda Protege DX with about 130 K miles on it..everything runs well, but I''m having a loud squeeling noise happen every now and then. It mostly happens when I turn the wheel (esp. hard), but has happened when I first cut the engine on as well. It seems to worsen when it''s wet on the road (has rained) or when it''s really humid. My first thought was the belts but all the belts have been replaced and are new so I can''t imagine that''s the problem. I would greatly appreciate if any mechanics or other car geniuses could respond because I don''t want to take it to my dealer blindly and then be ripped off! Thanks!

i had the same year model as you have and mine did that a little but not bad.   did you install the new belts?  if not check to make sure the belts are tight. also after installing new belts they usually stretch a lil bit after a short period of time.. did you check the power steering fluid? just curious. but if its doing it worse when the road is wet it seems like the belts are loose ..  and i have had new belts i have installed squeek at hard revs and high rpm.. a little belt dressing will take care of that.  hope this helps...
