My 1998 mazda will not shift properly. Transmission pan was leaking and ran low. REpaired leak, added fluid but it will not shift from second to third gear without letting off the gas. Any ideas on what needs to be done?

2.5 or 2.3 engine ? any code ? if it''s the 2.5 than you have a G4A-EL when it ran so low on fluid, any thing run too low on fluid is not good, you might burned out the 3rd clutch pack, then the transmission will need a rebuild or another one, but bring it to a tranny shop, to have them do an EDS (External diagnostic service) for you, like $39.95 or so they will tell you if it''s can be fix externally w/out pulling the unit or not, your transmission it expensive to rebuild, wish you all the luck.
