Why is that, Sheldon? Is that the only trans they offered for this car in this year? That''s not intended to be a smartass question. I really don"t know if they discontinued the 5-sp on the 626 @ some point. The MX-6"s I was looking @ in the late "90"s, though used, had them or I wouldn''t have considered them for purchase.
BTW: I saw your ad on Mz3forums last night. A forum sponsor, eh?

The CD4E trans is one of the worst transmissions ever offered in any Mazda vehicle. We have even stopped carrying them. I can''t even begin to tell you how many calls per week I get from customers for that trans. yep, we are a sponsor on that Forum & a few more. Let me know how our guy Ben handles that Forum  .

Other than calls for the trannys what are you basing your opinion on? From the shops that I talk with that rebuild the CD4E they tell me that the main cause of problems are burnt clutches. That is caused from overheating the fluid. Mazda put a radiator that is way too small on the car. It handles the engine heat but can''''t keep the trans fluid under 195 or so. Heat is the biggest killer of transmissions. We put auxillary cooler on and bypass the radiator cooler. We only had 1 comeback after the aux. cooler was installed and that was due to the reman tranny eating itself.
Now to answer the question. I would check with some transmission shops in your area to see it they may have a rebuilt one ready to go or can rebuild yours. Or if you prefer used, try www.car-parts.com a nationwide search engine that can find almost anything.
The # that we have also sold. I am not going to get into an argument over this, but the trans is not a good trans.
