Guys, I am looking to buy a 1988 RX-7 Convertable. I had a 1982 RX-7 while in college but had to sell it when I started a new job. I have located 2 near my home, but not having been able to find many to compare against, I was hoping you guys could give me some advice. The first one has 132,000 miles, says it is clean and ready to go. The asking price is $4300.00 The second one has 105,000 miles, says runs strong, but the back part of the top needs to be replaced. Assuming both are in good mechanical condition, I will have a mechanic check them out, and the interior is clean and in good condition, which would you recommend. Obviously, without seeing either car it will be hard to give good advice. But all things being equal, what should a 1988 convertable in good condition sell for. Or can you give me a few things to look for. Thanks for your help.

personally, i think that is too much for a second gen rx7. i paid 3700 for my 87 turbo II with 74k miles. not a typo, 74k miles. i know that the convertibles go for more, but as far as performance goes, the convertible is not the best value.

for a 2nd gen non-turbo, yes its a little high. normally non-turbos go for around 1k to 3k. If your serious about it, make sure you get a compression test so you know what to expect later.

i will say that all of the convertibles in my area go for about 3k to 3.5k with 150k to 180k miles, but i still think that is too much for an n/a 2gen. if you find a turbo II, you can get a solid tranny, LSD, a turbo, and a sunroof. sure, you don''t get a convertible top, but the turbo will make up for it i am sure. believe me, i went the same route. i was looking at convertibles until i finally drove a turbo II and was completely sold.
