I have a starter/electrical problem. The starter solenoid will engage, but the electrical motor will not turn.
I've tried two 'new' rebuilt starters and both bench tested fine. Wires are outofthebox new, connections are absolutely clean, battery @13v., and have tried another one from another car, etc. I've tried mounting the starter on the outside of the bell housing to watch the operation. . .solenoid clicks/moves, but elect motor will not spin. I have two ground wires -battery to the starter/frame/engine, so that's good. I've tried getting it to spin while I have hooked up on top of a board lying 'topofengine' -bypassing the ignition switch --pos wire to the starter solenoid -same thing -starter gear will move into position, but elect motor will not spin. If I engage for only a second or two, main wires will get warm. -When I have mounted to the bell housing and engage the starter, all dash lights will go out, including clock. --I did just change the clutch -1st time for that . . .but shouldn't have any electrical problems. I've been persistently messing with this issue for over a week. I've tried everything I can think of. This is on an '84 Rx-7 GSL-SE which I've had since '85.

Any help would be sincerley appreciated. . . Jeff in Indianapolis

u need to remove & clean both neg/pos battery terminals & cked for tightness, if your dash lights are going out when trying to
crank its lossing contact at the battery terminals,u can have 13 volts but when u apply a load the resistance causes it break current
sending a weak amprage to the starter.
