Starter would not shut off in the run position of the brand new starter and ignition switch and tumbler?
Had an electrician guy come and look at the car.He said had to be a relay.Couldn't find anything really in the manuals. He listened to each one (5) on the firewall.Took each one out and each time same problem. Then he disconnected the black thing on the firewall labelled pressure sensor (numbers on it are F-201 small #s 8601 to the right and slightly lower, then E1T11574? Problem went away, starter now shuts off after starting.Anyone have any idea what this switch does? Can't find anything in the manuals about it?

If this black box is right next to all of the relays then it is probably the atmospheric pressure sensor. Should have three wires in the connector to it Light green w/yellow stripe, Light green w/ red stripe, and Yellow. This sensor is an input the the engine computer for, well, atmospheric pressure. Do not yet see how that would be tied into the starting system yet but am still following pages. Does the problem return if the connector is plugged back in????

yes it was the atmospheric sensor has nothing to do with the starter,BH was right.Went to Mazda and talked to the mechanic (nice guy, helpful) he went through the wiring diagram (I have Mazda manual no diagrams) May have been the starter interlock relay sticking shut do to the faulty ignition switch sticking on.When I pulled the main resettable fuse I may have jarred it free allowing the starter to disengage (I HOPE SO).Hopefully I won't be posting again for a while.Glad the girl can use her car again. Thanks to everyone for help.

Glad you got it resolved finally ripcbx. I had been mapping out the power flow thru the starter circuit from ignition switch and following it to the circuit opening relay and ignition relay but could not find any way that the pressure sensor could create the problem outside of a shorted wire in a very short section of emission harness between the PCM and X-12 connector. Glad it was not that anyway. You don't have to have problem to come on and post with a hello now and again.
