Hello, The idling on the car was off when I would be at a stop, it would be at 1000 and then drop for a second and then come back up. I got the CEL a day or so after and I took it to a mechanic to do tune up and all that to see if he would catch anything, they gave me the error code P0171 which I looked up and it seems to be the O2 Sensor. I replaced my top O2 censor after that the idling was still off. I checked all the wires and hoses and also did a reset on the computer (took off the - battery wire for 15 min) and now the car idle is way off and almost bogs out. Is there anything else that controls the air/idling that would need to be cleaned/replaced? thanks.

If it hapens only at idle, then I would take a look at the EGR valve. Looks like it''s a problem on those cars. If you can''t afford a new EGR then you could try to clean it. There is a post here with a lot of information on how to do it, just search for protege EGR valve or something, you should find it. It could also be something else, but the EGR is a common problem on that model and it costs almost nothing to just clean it and test.
