Hi,

I recently joined the Mazda Family and I am curently facing a challenge.

My Mazda 626 1999 Model (Automatic Transmission) consumes more gas than normal. It revvs too high and hardly switches gears.
Worst still, it exudes black smoke from the exhaust.

THe Mechanic says it has to do with the Air flow meter. I have bought series of Aifr floe meters but there has been no change.

I ll be very grateful if anyone can profer a genuine solution

Regards and thanks for your time.

Before your mechanic changed the AFM, do you know if he actually pulled the code to make sure that it was the part that was causing the problem?

That's what I was going to ask.
It sounds like you may have more than one problem to me though.
I mean, how could the the AFM affect the ATX shift points?
(Oh what the hell, I've been wrong before and will be again.)

Well, I wouldnt know... hence I sought professional help from this forum. Anyways, I ll find out if he pulled the codes. Although he used a Mo-Scanner to diagnose the problem before he told me.

What is the code that is stored? If we get that from you, we can help you better diagnose the problem.

Whatever code or codes are stored in the car''s PCM. A code reader will extract the codes.
