I have '02 protege 5. I noticed one day the rear wiper was wiping really slow. Over the next week or so it got worse. The last few days I've tried it and it won't move at all. Is this a toasted rear wiper motor or something as simple as a bad fuse?

if it slowly died, it is the motor. with a blown fuse, it would have died suddenly with no warning.

I had the same problem: slower moving, then nothing... I disassembled the thing and it was simply corroded, the motor was working perfectly when removed from the mecanism. Now, the problem is that I damaged the corroded parts trying to separate them. I haven't replaced the mecanism yet because I had some more important repairs to do on the car, but you could try to remove the motor and test it before buying the whole thing. I guess they must sell only the mecanism (Well I hope)

Thanks for the help!  I was trying to take a look at the motor yesterday. Just wondering if there was a trick to removing the rear hatch interior plastic cover? I can see few speed nuts holding it in place. I was hoping to remove it without causing too much damage.

Simply remove the visible nuts, the rest is clipped.

valadas that''s just it, there are no exposed nuts to remove. If I pull on the lip of the inside plastic hatch cover I can see metal speed nuts inside(super tight spot). I just didn''t know if I should yank hard on the interior plastic piece.

just because you hear the relay clicking dosn''t mean that the signal is getting to the motor. I would recoment checking power at the motor connector. To verify the motor is ok you can apply 12v power directly to the motor with a jumper wire and is should turn on if working correctly.
