500.00? is that just labor, or parts AND labor? if it's both, you should find another "mechanic", cause this one is blowing more hot air than your a/c. an evaporator, TA01-61-J10B, suggested list price is 655.50. you will probably also need an expansion valve, TA01-61-J14, 132.20, and a drier-T001-61-501, 225.80. even at discounted pricing, 466.06, 93.99, 160.54, the parts alone are WAY over 500. then there is the nagging question, does your "mechanic" know what he is doing? for instance, the a/c system is climate control. which means the mixing of heat and cold to get the set temperature. this is done by blende doors. so, if the system is set to cold, say 65 deg, and it is blowing hot, say 95 deg, then probably the operation of the blende doors is in question. also, if the system is blowing hot thru the defrost mode, again, it AINT the evaporator. because like all german cars, the japanese cars default to the defrost mode when there is something wrong with the hvac. so, if your "mechanic" dont know that, you need to find a REAL mechanic. it's the hvac amplifier. get one off ebay. 25 bucks. change it yourself. takes about half an hour. your "mechanic" can probably do it in 2 and charge you for 4. hours, that is.
